ACTIVITY POINTS ARE OFFICIALLY RESCINDED
The activity points or "fiddle points" system, approved by the Executive Board last October by a 5-2 vote (McCrary and Smith opposed) and modified at its recent Miami meeting in January, has officially been eliminated and replaced with an accelerated bonus system (see ChessNews.org posts of 1/21 and 1/23). The action was taken by "objections procedure" after two weeks elapsed without objection to a motion made by USCF Vice President John McCrary. It does not come as a surprise, as EB support for activity points appeared to vanish after first Helen Warren and Joe Ippolito, and then Tim Redman, changed their positions on this issue.
