IT'S OFFICIAL, MISSISSIPPI SECEDES FROM USCF

by Richard Crespo

At a meeting at the state chess championhip on Saturday, February 24, 2001, the Mississippi Chess Association unanimously voted NOT to renew its USCF affiliate membership as long as Tim Redman is president and his policies are in effect. Discussion by the membership on his USCF policies concerning increased TLA and membership fees and the elimination of state grant funds and affiliate commissions was brief and the general consensus was that thousands of dollars were being sent to USCF without any return support for our state. When the vote was taken, the decision NOT to renew was unanimous.

Of the three state scholastic championships to be held in Louisiana this year, only one will be USCF rated.  The reasons for this action are exactly the same as stated above for Mississippi.
